Decorative Concrete Driveway 101

April 2, 2020 by Lior Israel

There are many ways to add a touch of style to your home. A decorative concrete driveway may be one option you want to consider. These driveways are not only stylish, but maintain all the great benefits you can expect from traditional concrete. Here are a few things you may want to know

What Decorative Concrete is

Decorative concrete is created in much the same fashion as traditional concrete. However, during the mixing process the paving contractor adds the necessary pigments and minerals to give the concrete the desired coloration and texture. During the pouring process molds and other shaping tools may be used to create patterns, textures, and designs.

Recommendations for Sealant

After its installation you may want to have your concrete driveway sealed. Sealant is recommended to protect your driveway from stains, chemicals, oil, and moisture absorption, among other things. Most professionals recommend applying a sealant every three to four years. Many paving contractors may offer select services as well.

Maintenance Needs

Decorative concrete is considered as easy to maintain as its traditional form. You may want to occasionally sweep or wash your driveway to maintain a clean appearance. It’s also recommended to clean up any spills of potentially staining materials as soon as possible, but in general a concrete driveway is considered low maintenance.

Available Styles

Decorative concrete can take a variety of colors and styles depending on the pigments and shaping methods used. It can be created to resemble everything from colored slate tiles, to cobblestone or brick. Before you start you can ask your paving contractor what color styles they have available and if they have any recommendations for your home.

If you have any other questions it’s a good idea to talk to your paving contractor. They’ll be able to help you choose a color and design, inform you of their recommended maintenance procedures, and answer any other questions you may have. Once it’s finished your decorative concrete driveway will be ready for both admiration and use.t away. Or, click the Write button and compose something new.
